Ongoing volunteer opportunities
Meals on wheels driver
- Hours: Monday and Tuesdays, 10:30am - 12:00pm 
- Volunteers can be scheduled for a particular day or can be on a substitute list. Volunteers either deliver weekly, bi-weekly, or once a month. 
- Duties include: - Pick up meals from U of L Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital or from SLCM and deliver them to 8-12 seniors each week 
- Return route sheets to Meals on Wheels Coordinator 
- Communicate with Meals on Wheels Coordinator about any client concerns 
 
Food pantry worker
- Hours: Mondays-Thursday, 9-12 or 12:30-3:30 
- Volunteers can be scheduled for a particular day or can be on a substitute list. 
- Duties include: - Stocking/organizing the pantry area 
- Walking neighbors around the choice pantry to pick out food and loading food orders into their cars in the parking lot 
 
On-Call Interpreter
- Hours: as available 
- Required skills: fluency in English, and a language other than English 
- Duties include: - Being on-call to help when a neighbor comes in and does not speak English well enough to be helped as effectively as possible. We’ll give you a call and (if you’re available) ask you to interpret for approximately 15 minutes so we can make sure they can get what they need. 
 
dare to care truck unloader
- Hours: 9:30 - 11 a.m. on the second Thursday of each month 
- Duties include: - Unloading food deliveries (expect to lift boxes up to 40 lbs.) 
- Correctly shelving the items 
 
intake volunteer
- Hours: Wednesdays 12:30 - 4 PM 
- Volunteers are scheduled for a particular half-day during the week 
- Duties include: - Conducting interviews over the phone with prospective clients 
- Assessing eligibility for programs 
- Using databases and web-based programs to gather information 
- Referring clients to other agencies 
- Scheduling financial assistance appointments 
 
food pickup
- Hours: As Available/Needed 
- Duties include: - Being on-call to pick up food from partner sites as needed. We’ll give you a call/text, and, if you’re available, you will load the items into your own vehicle, transport them to SLCM, and help us unload and put them away. 
 
Neighbor Advocate
- Hours: As Available 
- Duties include: Advocating and listening to neighbors' needs, goals, and challenges and working with the larger community to better connect resources and opportunities. Our goal is to create a better understanding of the needs of our community and to work on a grassroots level to make every household safe, happy, and healthy.
